What Is The Unpardonable Sin?
Categories: Pastor
This question comes from Mark 3:29. Jesus had just healed a man with a withered hand. The response of the religious leaders was that He is able to cast out demons because He is the ruler of the demons. They were attributing Jesus’ work of casting out demons to Satan. Jesus responded to them by saying that a kingdom that is divided cannot stand. This is the blasphemy in the text. Jesus says that they will not be forgiven.
Can someone commit this unpardonable sin today? The answer is no. This particular sin was committed while Jesus was on earth. Because He is not physically on earth today casting out demons, the same possibility of blasphemy is not possible. However, there is an unpardonable sin mentioned elsewhere in Scripture. It is the sin of not obeying the Spirit’s leading to salvation. The unpardonable sin is the sin of continued unbelief in Jesus as the means of salvation. John 3:36 says, “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him”.
I hope this helps. Great question!
